The featured car for August is not only a classic but also a legend. It is what all boys, little or big should dream about. The car was bought in 1998 for R 8750.00 from Gauteng and sent down to Durban. Kishore used the car for about a year and then started his labor of love. The car was completely stripped and the restoration progress began. Every part was carefully restored before being put back. The engine, gearbox and diff was also completely stripped and rebuilt.

The total restoration cost has so far been in the region of about R 45000.00. The car was completely restored by Kishore at his workshop Clayfield Auto Repairs. The project took about two years to complete. After starting restoration, the car left the workshop fro the first time only once everything was complete. “The car never leaves my sight !” smiles Kishore.

One can not change perfection so the exterior of the car was restored to pretty much original. The car was replayed to its original colors. It was one with so much care and pride that it also boasts the Calbrook Colors decal below the right side tail light. CC was the designer of the colors and body kit on the TRD. The decal was in the same position of all TRD’s that left the Toyota factory. The car runs on its original TRD wheels that have been given a high polish treatment with Bridgestone Potenza RE7110 13/60/205 tyres.

The interior is also pretty much as it came from factory with a few minor additions. The only deviation from standard are chrome pedals, chrome fire extinguisher, chrome handbrake, chrome gear lever, chrome window winders and a sport steering.

Kishore was very successful in making minor cosmetic changes while not deviating away from the original.

A lot of work and effort has gone into the motor. It has been completely chromed. It has a set of 87.5mm pistons. Lightened and knife edged crank. The motor has also been fully balanced. It has a heavy duty clutch installed. It is running the original TRD cam fro drivability. It has a nicely flowed head. It boasts a set of 45 Webber carbs with a matched ported manifold. Kishore has fitted an electronic ignition with 8mm Mag Fire plug leads. Fuel is supplied with a high pressure fuel pump with 10mm fuel lines. It also has a search tank to help supply the carbs with a permanent pressure gauge. It has the original TRD airbox with a Simota filter with heat shield.

What good is a hot cabbie in durbs without some ICE. Kishore has a Kenwood head unit, Kenwood Mids, Pioneer Super Tweeters, DHD Power Cruiser Amp (1000 watt) and a Lanzur Max Dual Voice Coil 15” Sub installed.
