To close-off our 2012 events calender, this year the TTCC supported 3 extremely deserving animal rescue shelters – Barking Mad, Animal Ambulance and Paws ‘R Us.
With no formal assistance or aid in place from Government, these 3 causes rely solely on the public for assistance. They are all pro-life centres, and believe that every animal, like every human, has the right to live.
The morning started with quite a large group meeting for breakfast at the Maxi’s overhead bridge. It was a welcome sight to see many new faces, and some familiar ones too! After breakfast, we departed in convoy for the Barking Mad premises, where we were welcomed by the 3 causes.
We were quite taken aback by the sad tales of some of the dogs…some abused, some strays, some sick. But in the capable care of the volunteers of our 3 causes, most of these animals survive where they would have otherwise not. We salute these amazing people that dedicate just about all their available time to these animals, and some of them still work normal jobs. We wish them only the best and urge them to keep up the selfless great work they perform!
Then came some fun time with the dogs, and we took them on a 1km walking trail around the property…and I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all shared a special bond with the dogs we walked.
All-in-all. it was an amazing effort on the part of the TTCC community and committee, and we are humbled by the response we received. We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this Charity Run – from all over South Africa – and helping us collect an outstanding R40 000 worth of donations and wish list items! This smashed our previous club record of R26 000, and is a new club record for a charity event, the highest ever in our 24-year history. We could not have accomplished this without the passionate Toyota community. Thank you for showing that we CAN make a difference.
