The month of August saw the TTCC return to Manny’s Trix. Those who regularly attend the Dyno Day at Manny’s know that the event never fails to dissappoint, with some of the hottest and most powerful Toyotas coming through from all corners of Gauteng, and some even as far as the Free State.
The first car on the rollers was Ben Klopper’s beautifully rebuilt-from-the-ground-up Corolla GLi Twin Cam Turbo, and straight-off the bat outputted 241 kW. That set the tone for the rest of the event, and Ben went on to win the 4cyl Turbo Class, which had quite a few entrants.
In the n/a classes, Gerard Benedict’s ravishing red GLi Twin Cam stole the 16v show with 83kW, taking the class win and the trophy. The 20v class is always hotly contested, and this time around was no exception…with Krishna Chhana taking the win by 1kW, with a 91kW reading. Sadly no RunX RSi’s or TRD’s entered the X class, but even if they did, they would have had to answer to Wesley Govender’s MR2 Spyder. With the most glorious exhaust tone I have heard in ages, this 2ZZ powered MR2 packed out a healthy 121kW, possibly the highest ever 2ZZ reading at a TTCC/Manny’s Trix Dyno Day.
Ex-club Chairman Thags Govender brought through his Mk1 MR2 Twin Cam Turbo, and when the NOS was fed through, this little red rocket spat out over 300kW, taking the 4cyl Open class.
The Shocker of the Day award went though to Hein Griesel’s Hilux…yes, you heard right, a Hilux.
BUT, this was no ordinary bakkie…with 254kW on tap from its 2JZ Turbo lump, this bakkie would shock anyone quite frankly. Definitely not a Hilux you would want to cross paths with on the streets, as you may be greatly embarrased by this white work-horse. The best part is that it’s so discreetly modified on the exterior and interior that it gives no real indication of the craziness that sits under the bonnet.
There is always at least one Toyota that arrives which produces power figures that would frighten the daylights out of many a super car, and humble even the some of the most powerful hyper cars. This year, when we spotted Deon Hartzenburg’s 2JZ Turbo box Corolla on the dyno pack out over 200kW on baby boost, we knew that this would be a gentle break-in for the crowd for the mayhem that was soon to arrive…and later on, Deon’s brother Schalk didn’t dissppoint. He drove in with his notorious 2JZ Turbo 2-door box Corolla. Last year we saw this beaut chuck out 536kW on the rear wheels. When his car arrived outside Manny’s, one person was overheard saying, “Hier kom die moeielikheid…” And that was the best four words anyone could have possibly used to let the people know that a monster had arrived. With hands over our ears while trying to film or take pictures of this Corollas runs, people were almost in disbelief and had to pick their lower jaws of the floor when this crazy Corolla unleashed a staggering 574kW and 795Nm…and taking the 6cyl Turbo Class win.
Thanks to everyone that attended, participated and spectated.
We look forward to seeing anyone and everyone with a Toyota at our next event which is in conjunction with Rand Stadium Toyota @ The Glen…Joburg’s Finest Toyota.
The last time we co-hosted this event, over 400 Toyotas came out in force to support the event, and this time, the only promise we want to make, is that it’s much, much, MUCH bigger! Join us at Rand Stadium Toyota on 15 September 2012 from 09h00 – 14h00 for this Toyota-only day.
